ACVOW is a non-profit service that recruits combat veteran volunteers to mentor, coach and support our warriors in the transition from combat, enabling them and their families to lead prosperous and gratifying lives. As many of our military personnel come back from combat, they are met with new mental health obstacles in the form of combat stress. Without dealing with their combat stress, veterans often find it problematic to readjust to a peaceful society, impacting both their education as well as work. When addressing PTSD , unlike a lot of mental health care professionals, ACVOW likes to omit the the letter D, which represents disorder. They believe combat stress is not a disorder, but a natural reaction to an exceedingly unusual ordeal.ACVOW was originally established in early 2001 to assist Vietnam veterans who were still struggling with post traumatic stress, or combat stress. Their signature characteristic is its combat veteran volunteers who’ve the extraordinary understanding of knowing what our warriors experienced. Now, a great number of ACVOW volunteers are assisting to mentor and assist warriors from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
